10 Best Managed Healthcare Stocks To Buy For 2015

The $10,000 home–rare? Not in Detroit, the largest American city to enter bankruptcy–in its case Chapter 9. Realtor.com lists 515 homes for sale at at between $5,000 and $10,000.

Most of these low priced homes are small, as measured in square footage. Many are fewer than 2,000 square feet in size, and have two bedrooms or less. Many also sit on lots which are less than 4,000 square feet–barely large enough for a real yard.

A great many of the cheap homes are clustered well outside the center of downtown, which sits on the Detroit River. There have been some partially successful efforts to rebuild this city center. And the sections of the city between GM’s (NYSE: GM) headquarters in the 73 story Renaissance Center and Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play, and Ford Field which is the home of the Detroit Lions have been improved–or at least have not fallen apart further in the last 10 years.

The Detroit neighborhoods with cheap home prices are mostly northwest of downtown toward Eight Mile Road, which is the northern edge of the city. A great many of these homes were built before WW II, probably for people streaming into the city to get automotive assembly plant jobs. Many of the neighborhoods where these houses are located have been almost entirely deserted.

Cramer Talks Up Biotech and Cancer Biotech in Particular. For what his opinion might be worth, MSNBC Mad Money host Jim Cramer recently commented that the 25 best-performing small cap stocks this year are "almost entirely biotech." He went on to point out that Celldex Therapeutics has been "just incredibleand that other companies to watch include Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ: CELG), ImmunoGen, Inc (NASDAQ: IMGN) and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc (NASDAQ: ONXX), which all have promising cancer products on the way. He also added that:

While very upbeat on the sector as a whole, UBS was very cautious on sell-rated Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc (NASDAQ: IRWD) and ImmunoGen Inc. (NASDAQ: IMGN). Neutral-rated Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTX) and Seattle Genetics Inc. (NASDAQ: SGEN) were also viewed with a skeptical eye.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It may not have blazed a trail into the young, immunology segment of the biotech industry the way Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ:DNDN) did back in 2010 with the debut of Provenge. It may not have the same immunology pipeline (and company size) that ImmunoGen, Inc. (NASDAQ:IMGN) boasts. One thing is pretty certain about cancer-immunotherapy developer CEL-SCI Corporation (NYSEMKT:CVM) right now, however - its stock may be poised to dole out a much bigger foreseeable-future reward than DNDN or IMGN are.

Now what: We're still in the top of the second inning of a nine-inning game here, but ADCs certainly appear to be the future of cancer therapy -- at least one path to treating it. Immunomedics still has a long road to climb as its two ADC peers are much further along in their development process. ImmunoGen (NASDAQ: IMGN  ) , for instance, already has an FDA-approved drug for late-stage HER2-positive breast cancer known as Kadcyla that utilizes the company's proprietary targeted-antibody payload technology (the same concept as ADCs with a different name) in combination with Roche'sHerceptin. In trials, this combo extended median overall survival by 5.8 months over the placebo to 30.9 months. Something similar can be said for Seattle Geneticsand its ADC pipeline.

10 Best Managed Healthcare Stocks To Buy For 2015: Whiting USA Trust I(WHX)

Whiting USA Trust I is a REIT. The trust was founded in 2007 and is based in Austin, Texas.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another name that's starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Whiting USA Trust I (WHX). This stock hasn't done much so far in 2013, with shares up just 4.5%.

If you look at the chart for Whiting USA Trust I, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending strong for the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $3.65 to its intraday high of $4.87 a share. During that move, shares of WHX have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now spiked shares of WHX back above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is bullish. Shares of WHX are now quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in WHX if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $4.90 to $5.04 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 321,220 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then WHX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $6.23 to $8.01 a share.

Traders can look to buy WHX off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day at $4.12 a share. One can also buy WHX off strength once it takes out that breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Margins matter. The more Ignite Restaurant Group (Nasdaq: IRG  ) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why we check up on margins at least once a quarter in this series. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, so I can compare them to current and potential competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Ignite Restaurant Group's competitive position could be.

Andrew Burton/Getty Images This has been a decent year for consumer-facing companies, and restaurant stocks would seem to be obvious beneficiaries. The employment picture is improving, giving consumers the means to eat out. Lower gas prices are also helping. However, not all eatery chains moved higher in 2014. Let's take a look at some of the companies that went the wrong way this year. Potbelly (PBPB) -- Down 51 percent this year The sandwich baker that got its start as part of an antique store has shed more than half of its value. It's been rough for the stock that initially soared after going public last year. Then again, investors have a right to question Potbelly's popularity. Comparable-restaurant sales through the first nine months of this year have declined 1.1 percent, and adjusted profitability has been nearly cut in half. At the end of the day there's no shortage of sandwich shops out there, even if this is the only one that started out in the back of an antique shop. Chuy's (CHUY) -- Down 46 percent this year One of the hardest-hit casual-dining chains of 2014 is Chuy's. The chain of lively Mexican restaurants -- featuring Elvis Presley shrines, nacho bars out of makeshift car trunks and framed pet portraits -- seems to be holding up well. It has rattled off 17 consecutive quarters of positive comparable-store sales. With just 59 full-service restaurants offering Mexican eats, Chuy's is still in its infancy. The reason that the stock has shed nearly half of its value this year is that it began the year at a lofty valuation. Chuy's is growing, but it's not growing fast enough to justify its earlier market cap. Noodles & Co. (NDLS) -- Down 28 percent this year Noodles & Co. was one of last year's hottest IPOs, soaring after going public at $18. A few trading days later, the stock was poking its head above $50. The fast-casual chain specializing in a wide array of international pasta dishes has a unique concept and plenty of room for

www.elpolloloco.com One of this year's hottest initial public offerings is a quick-service restaurant chain that prides itself on its grilled citrus-marinated chicken. El Pollo Loco (LOCO) has seen its stock more than double since it went public at $15 in July. The California-based eatery had its first chance to impress investors with its first quarterly report as a public company on Thursday. It didn't disappoint. Sales inched 6.3 percent higher to $86.9 million, fueled primarily by a 5.4 percent increase in system-wide comparable-restaurant sales. Adjusted earnings climbed 10 percent to $6.1 million -- or 16 cents a share. The results were in line with analyst targets of 16 cents a share in net income on $86.4 million in sales. This isn't the kind of monster growth that investors associate with stocks that double within two months of storming out of the IPO gate, but El Pollo Loco now has the ammo to begin expanding its reach beyond the 401 locations open at the end of June. For investors, El Pollo Loco offers an opportunity to cash in on the fast-casual trend that's been faring better than traditional fast-food chains or casual-dining establishments. Spreading Its Wings Going public has its challenges. It forces companies to live up to Wall Street's quarterly expectations, and that can often get in the way of carrying out long-term growth plans. However, trading publicly gives a company the ability to tap equity markets to raise capital. It also helps validate brands, and that's a pretty big deal for a consumer-facing restaurant operator that relies on third-party franchisees to help build out its empire. A majority of its eateries -- 233 locations, or 58 percent -- are owned and operated by franchisees. Expansion has been slow until now. El Pollo Loco had 347 locations when it originally tried but ultimately failed to go public in 2006. Growing your store count by 16 percent through eight years isn't very impressive. Take Noodles & Company (NASDAQ: NDLS  ) , for example. The fast-casual dining chain hit the public market running last month, with the stock's IPO more than doubling in value. This enthusiasm from investors seems promising until you consider that the stock now trades at nearly 430 times earnings. Yikes.

Amy Sancetta/AP Plenty of stocks go up and down in any given week. The gainers inspire us to keep investing. The decliners keep greed in check while reminding us about the risks of the equity markets. Let's go over some of last week's best and worst performers. Chiquita Brands (CQB) -- Up 35 Percent Last Week Investors went bananas over Chiquita after it received -- and rejected -- a buyout offer. Cutrale and Safra offered an unsolicited offer to buy the banana giant at a price of $13 a share, representing a 29 percent premium to where Chiquita closed before bid was made public. Chiquita's board rejected the offer. The stock still moved higher -- above and beyond $13 -- on the possibility of Cutrale and Safra sweetening their bid. Monster Beverage (MNST) -- Up 34 Percent Last Week Soft drinks are out, and adrenaline-boosting energy drinks are in. Coca-Cola (KO) knows this, so it announced on Friday morning that it was buying a nearly 17 percent stake in Monster Beverage for $2.15 billion. Monster and Red Bull dominate this niche despite growing concerns about the health risks of young consumers taking in too many energy drinks. Monster's stock rallied on Friday. Investors may be hoping that Coca-Cola eventually swallows down all of Monster, but in the meantime it validates the beverage category. United Online (UNTD) -- Up 20 Percent Last Week It's possible to be at the right place at the right time but with the wrong approach. United Online hasn't been the market darling that it could have been given its ability to hop on to trends early. After all, it acquired alum-reuniting Classmates before social networking was hot. It built up NetZero when the country was just starting to migrate online. It also bought MyPoints from a legacy airline before the appeal of online coupons and loyalty clubs became popular. However, investors were rewarded last week when United Online posted preliminary quarterly results. Its bean counters are still trying to assess th

Top 5 Up And Coming Stocks To Watch For 2014

First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR  ) has been leading the solar industry for more than a decade but it's in a tough strategic position at the moment as the industry shifts into a new growth phase. The company's panels aren't as efficient as rivals and massive project developments that have driven earnings over the past few years are now few and far between.

The company's systems backlog has fallen from $9.4 billionto end 2011 to $8.0 billion after Q1 2013, which isn't a good sign because the company is almost 100% reliant on systems. The high-margin systems that come with projects signed years ago will also likely evaporate as First Solar competes on cost per watt against SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWR  ) , Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: CSIQ  ) , and others. But the biggest challenge is the company's panels.

Falling behind where the growth is
First Solar's product is not as efficient as competitors and now it doesn't have the cost advantage it once had. In fact, many Chinese producers are selling panels for less than the $0.69 per watt First Solar is now producing its panels for. We can debate all day how important efficiency is in solar panels, but when cost per watt is the same a buyer will go with the more efficient panel every time.

From a parade of bankers' earnings to a pizza giant rolling out a new crust, here are some of the things that will help shape the week ahead on Wall Street. Monday -- X Marks the Spot: Data storage is a big part of businesses in the modern age; companies have massive amounts of information to manage and keep secure. Xyratex (XRTX) may not be a household name, but it is well-known to corporate IT departments seeking enterprise data storage solutions. Xyratex reports on Monday afternoon. It's seen better days, and analysts predict it will report a sharp drop in revenue. However, Xyratex has been able to beat Wall Street's profit targets with ease over the past four quarters. Tuesday -- Big Banking's Big Close Up: It's going to be a roll call of the "too big to fail" banking behemoths as they step up for their quarterly results. Wells Fargo (WFC) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) kick things off on Tuesday. That will be followed by Bank of America (BAC) on Wednesday. Citigroup (C) and Goldman Sachs (GS) step up on Thursday. These are interesting times for the financial services providers. Interest rates are starting to move higher, and that may get in the way of demand for mortgages, but it will also help improve the chances that customers open and fund savings and checking accounts. Wednesday -- Tracking Trains: Railroads may seem like yesterday's mode of transportation, but rail remains a viable way to get goods moving across the country. CSX (CSX) reports on Wednesday. The provider of rail, intermodal, and rail-to-truck transload services and solutions has been shipping goods for 185 years. It offers coverage through every major metropolitan market in the eastern United States. Analysts see revenue inching up by 3 percent, with CSX's profit of $0.42 a share besting the $0.40 a share it posted a year earlier. CSX will

Meanwhile, small-cap TV broadcaster Gray Television (GTN) is showing some bullish overtones after tracking sideways for the last month and change. GTN is currently forming a cup-and-handle pattern, a classical bullish setup that triggers on a move through the $9.25 level. Don't put too much thought into the cup-and-handle setup itself; instead, just focus on that breakout level at $9.25.

Whenever you're looking at any technical price pattern, it's critical to think in terms of those buyers and sellers. Triangles, and other pattern names are a good quick way to explain what's going on in a stock, but they're not the reason it's tradable. Instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.

That $9.25 resistance level is a price where there has been an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it's a place where sellers have been more eager to step in and take gains than buyers have been to buy. That's what makes a breakout above it so significant -- the move means that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), Gray Television beat slightly on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

My selection of stocks was now almost entirely based upon themes. Instead of seeking out value in out-favor-sectors, I had temporarily diverted to the path of attempting to identify investing themes, although I would only purchase a stock if I deemed it to be a bargain. The major themes I had identified were natural gas related stocks, material stocks such as cement companies, and discounted Chinese growth stocks which made their money by selling their products to Chinese consumers. I also owned significant positions in some other purely American companies which included Casey (CASY) and Gray Television (GTN). Ultimately, Gray Television would turn out to be a colossal failure (more on GTN later).

Top Japanese Stocks To Own For 2014

Over the past several years, Ford Motor (NYSE: F  ) has been investing billions of dollars in Asia. As part of the company's restructuring plan, and tohelp diversify Ford's profit sources,Ford aimed to increase its presence in some of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world, especially China. In 2012, more than 100% of Ford's profit came from the North American automotive sector; the rest of the company combined for a loss.

The key to gaining market share in China and other large Asian economies is Ford's plan to bring new "global" vehicles to these markets. For example, Ford is introducing 15 new models in China between 2012 and 2015. These model introductions -- along with a territorial dispute between Japan and China that sparked anti-Japanese protests in China -- have led to incredible sales growth for Ford in China.

However, due to the heavy level of reinvestment and rapidly growing manufacturing capacity, Ford has not been able to turn that sales growth into strong profits -- until now. Last quarter, Ford earned $177 million before tax in its Asia Pacific Africa region, up from just $6 million in Q1, and a $66 million pre-tax loss in Q2 2012.

It is a preliminary review of the books of the banks for which it will soon have supervisory responsibilities. Advisors' Opinion:

I come to the real unemployment rate and the real underemployment rate (U-6 figure) by switching this month's labor force participation rate with the rate that existed in the healthier economy of November 2006. Some would argue that participation level was inflated by the real estate bubble, with a good many Americans lucky to be working in mortgage finance at Bank of America's (BAC) Countrywide Financial, or in construction or housing sales at Toll Brothers, and other ancillary jobs tied to housing like in mortgage insurance at Radian Group (RDN). While I give that argument some credence, I also suggest that given the humming economy of the time on various drivers, those Americans could also have found other work or founded businesses.

In addition to Forest Oil Corp., positions in Carters, Inc., John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Class A shares, and General Communication, Inc., Class A shares were eliminated and Saks, Inc. (SKS) was sold due to the company's acquisition by Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC) (the $16 takeover price compared to our cost of approximately $4 .25 per share). One new position, Radian Group, Inc. (RDN), was established. One of the largest private mortgage insurance companies, Radian Group, Inc. should benefit from a recovery in the housing industry and from the Federal Housing Administration's gradual pull-back from the mortgage insurance market.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jayson Derrick]

Analysts at Credit Suisse maintained an Outperform rating on Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) with a price target raised to $109 from a previous $110. Analysts at Citigroup maintained a Neutral rating with a price target lowered to $110 from a previous $115. Shares gained 0.17 percent, closing at $99.44.

  • [By reports.droy]

The heavy machinery honcho, Caterpillar (CAT), posted its third quarter results on October 23. The company was able to post much better earnings than was predicted, and the report card was completely in the green for the company. The stock market also reacted positively to the news and sent the Caterpillar stock soaring higher with the share price opening 3.3% higher at $97.69 on Thursday morning. Let's find out the details of the third quarter earnings.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Why the massive rally? Chalk it up to solid earnings from some bellwether companies. Caterpillar (CAT), for instance, gained 4.6% this week after reporting surprisingly good results, while 3M (MMM) rose 8.1% following its own beat, and Microsoft (MSFT) advanced 5.7% this week after beating earnings and reporting that it was finally making a profit on its Surface tablet. Apple (AAPL), the biggest company in the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, rose 7.7% after the tech giant beat the Street’s earnings and revenue forecasts, and offered above-consensus guidance.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Why is the market surging? Top-notch earnings from big Dow components like Caterpillar (CAT) and 3M (MMM), and a dividend increase from Visa (V) certainly have helped, as these are some of the priciest stocks in the price-weighted Dow. And then there’s the economic data. US jobless claims rose to 283,000, a tad bit higher than expected but still ridiculously low. Global purchasing managers’ indexes! also sho! wed signs of improvement, especially in Europe. If the recent selloff was a “growth scare,” then perhaps growth isn’t as scary as many investors thought.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By David Williamson]

Exact Sciences' (NASDAQ: EXAS  ) phase 3 trial for its colon cancer detection test passed, but the stock dropped 20%. What gives? In this video, David Williamson goes into the details of Exact Sciences' DNA-based test. The overall effectiveness of the Cologuard test was 92%. However, the detection rate was 42%, less than colonoscopy, and the 87% overall accuracy rate leads to a higher false positive rate than most doctors would like to see. Is Exact Sciences doomed? Not really -- it has $100 million in the bank. It may be a takeover target, and David sees Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ: ISRG  ) as a possible buyer.
